“岁月失语，惟石能言”，砚本为石，其用途为文。尼山砚，四肢中国名砚之一，因其石产于曲阜尼山而得名，它于尼山石之上，镌刻了一份属于儒学的独家追忆。

　　尼山砚，为鲁砚中的杰出人物，其历史悠久，石质考究，有着“简朴大方、巧夺天工”的艺术作风。砚石产自石灰岩夹层之中，数目珍稀，不易开荒，其纹理细致千般，除传统的褐玄色松斑纹理外，又有水纹和山水画纹理。在本色制作中因材施艺，依形开墨堂、墨池，少有雕饰点缀，加之铭文多选自《论语》，自然名石与中国传统儒家文化相互照映，意蕴深长，气质典雅大方。2009年，曲阜尼山砚制作技术被列入山东省第二批省级非物资文化遗产名录。
